Lake Mead Boulevard Closures At Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard
Planned For July

East And Westbound Lake Mead Lane Restrictions July 6-10 And July 13-17

Beginning at 3 a.m. Monday, July 6, and continuing through 9 p.m. Friday, July 10, Lake Mead Boulevard east- and westbound approaches to Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard will be closed to traffic around the clock for roadway construction. The west half of the intersection will close July 6-10. The east half of the intersection will close beginning 3 a.m. Monday, July 13, and continuing through 9 p.m. Friday, July 17. Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard will remain open with one lane in each direction. See the maps for detours. Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time and follow all posted detour signs, or use alternate routes.

This Lake Mead Boulevard complete streets improvement project is a joint project with North Las Vegas that continues through this fall. Traffic restrictions on Lake Mead continue from Losee Road to Simmons Street as work progresses for the duration of the project. Motorists should expect delays. Suggested alternate routes include Carey and Owens/Vegas Drive. Access for local businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained wherever possible. See the project area map here.

The project focuses on roadway and safety improvements including:

  • Pavement replacement;
  • New medians with landscaping and irrigation;
  • New traffic signal/Intelligent Traffic System infrastructure;
  • Replacement of water pipes;
  • Sanitary sewer pipes rehabilitation;
  • New signing and roadway striping, including addition of bike lanes;
  • Upgrade of streetlights to LED;
  • Upgrades to existing pedestrian crossing as well as the creation of new pedestrian crossings at Lexington and Pink Rose streets; and
  • New sidewalk ramps.

Holcim, Inc. is the contractor. The $37.7 million project budget is funded by the Regional Transportation Commission's Fuel Revenue Index Fund and the city of Las Vegas Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund. For questions or concerns during construction, call 702-649-6250.
