Montgomery Wins Prestigious 2026 All-America City Award

MONTGOMERY, AL - The National Civic League has named Montgomery, Alabama, a winner of the 2026 All-America City Award. Announced in Denver following a three-day summit from June 26-28, the award recognizes ten communities for their exceptional work in strengthening civic health and building trust through community-driven partnerships.

During the event, diverse teams of students, city leaders, and residents presented their initiatives to a jury of national civic leaders. These presentations used skits, music, and personal stories to demonstrate how cities are creatively solving local challenges and strengthening democracy. Montgomery stood out for its effective use of civic infrastructure to drive collaborative problem-solving.

The city of Montgomery, a Major point in United States history, from the founding point of the Confederacy to the Civil Rights Movement, is focused on deliberately rebuilding civic trust. Over the past decade, the city has expanded participation and made local government more responsive. Notable efforts include the city's first comprehensive plan in 50 years, shaped by over 3,000 resident ideas, and the work of the Planning Department, Neighborhood Services and the Innovation Team to co-design solutions for housing and economic opportunity. By treating residents as partners, Montgomery is creating a more equitable and resilient local democracy.
