On May 19, 2026, Elmedin Konaković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition to End Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) in London. He was invited by Yvette Cooper, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth Affairs, and Development of the United Kingdom.
The International Coalition to End Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a global initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation among states, international organizations, and other partners to prevent and reduce all forms of violence against women and girls. The initiative focuses on improving public policies, sharing good practices, and supporting programs based on research and validated approaches for preventing and addressing violence.
Minister Konaković expressed gratitude to Secretary Cooper for initiating this important campaign and for inviting Bosnia and Herzegovina to join the Core Group of countries, which also includes the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, and Jamaica. He emphasized Bosnia and Herzegovina's full support for and acceptance of the Coalition's high-level principles. He also highlighted that the fight against violence towards women and girls should adopt a balanced approach, integrating institutional reforms, social changes, and adequate victim support, rather than focusing on just one aspect. The Minister stressed the importance of mobilizing resources and countries to achieve real progress in protecting women from all forms of gender-based violence and addressing its causes, consequences, and preventive measures on a global scale.
He underlined the significance of implementing national obligations within the Coalition in a tangible and measurable way, bridging the gap between legal frameworks and real-world practices, transforming social norms, and enhancing the availability of victim support services in all regions, including rural areas. Konaković also discussed the importance of collaboration and communication among Coalition members, which facilitates the exchange of best practices and lessons learned, leading to more effective implementation of activities. He supported the initiative to hold the VAWG Summit the following year and endorsed plans to establish an Advisory Committee for Survivors, which would help guide the direction and actions of the campaign. In closing, the minister reaffirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment to sharing experiences and actively contributing to comprehensive and systemic efforts to prevent violence against women and girls on an international scale.
The presentation of the International Coalition to End Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) was part of the Global Partnerships Conference (GPC), co-hosted by the United Kingdom and South Africa in London.
