NV Energy Files Next Phase of Natural Disaster Protection Plan to Strengthen System Safety and Resilience

The filing continues NV Energy's long-term commitment to reducing disaster risk and enhancing system resilience across the state.

NV Energy recently submitted its third triennial Natural Disaster Protection Plan (NDPP) to the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN), outlining proposed investments and initiatives for 2027-2029 designed to reduce natural disaster risk and further harden Nevada's electric grid. The plan prioritizes public safety, long-term risk reduction, rapid response and greater resilience for customers and the communities the company serves.

Established in response to Nevada Senate Bill 329 in 2019, NV Energy's NDPP is implemented by the company's Power Safe NV team. Since its inception, the program has significantly expanded situational awareness capabilities, improved emergency response processes, strengthened grid infrastructure and reduced the potential impacts of natural disasters on the electric system.

"Over the past several years, our Natural Disaster Protection Plan has delivered meaningful improvements in safety, resilience and preparedness across the state," said Jesse Murray, senior vice president of energy delivery. "We're proud of the progress this program has made, and we look forward to continuing this critical work to protect our customers and the communities we serve."

The newly submitted NDPP outlines the company's proposed plans and programs across several key areas including:

  • Risk-based decision making
  • Situational awareness
  • Operational practices and emergency response
  • Inspections and corrections
  • Vegetation management
  • System hardening
  • Community engagement

These efforts are designed to help NV Energy mitigate wildfire and extreme weather risks, strengthen system reliability and continue building a more resilient energy future for Nevada.

The case has been assigned to Docket No. 26-02034 and can be found on the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada website here.
