On 2 September 2025, the Embassy of the people's republic of China in Australia hosted a film reception commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Ambassador Xiao Qian attended the event and delivered remarks. Nearly 50 representatives from the Australian Citizens Party, the diplomatic corps in Australia, members of the Chinese community, and international students participated. The documentary Pig Iron Bob was screened on site.
Ambassador Xiao noted that Pig Iron Bob recreates the historical episode in 1938, during the period of Japan's occupation of Nanjing, when Australian dockworkers, in order to help the Chinese people escape massacre, voluntarily went on strike to resist the shipment of pig iron to Japan for weapon production. Their noble deed provided valuable support to China's war of resistance and demonstrated that humanity shares a common destiny and that peace must be safeguarded collectively. In the new era, he expressed the hope that the peoples of China and Australia will continue to move forward hand in hand and contribute anew to peace and development for all mankind.
Attendees affirmed that the friendship between China and Australia is historically grounded, and that jointly remembering history and cherishing peace will create a better future for humanity. A thematic photo exhibition was also held alongside the reception.
