From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the City of Mesquite will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with special recognitions and a wide variety of events.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and as part of the City's Get Fit Mesquite program, join us for Vida Sana from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Mesquite Arts Center. This free health fair geared toward the Hispanic community will offer a variety of fitness classes, healthy living education classes and the chance to win raffle prizes. Savor the delights of Latin-inspired cuisine with Visit Mesquite's Mesquite Foodie Trail: Taco Trail Edition, highlighting top taco spots across the City. Diners who eat at restaurants on the trail have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win free tacos for a year. Learn more at www.VisitMesquiteTX.com.
Get the fiesta started and join Visit Mesquite for the Mesquite Taco Crawl at 3 p.m. on Sept. 20 with a guided tour of local taco shops. Call the Mesquite Visitor Center at 972-204-4925 to reserve tickets.
The Mesquite Main Library will host "Dancing Across Latin America" at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15, 22 and 29. This free, all-ages program will showcase the beauty of several Hispanic cultural dances.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, families are invited to the North Branch Library for bilingual Storytime at noon on Mondays from Sept. 15 to Oct. 13. Families and children of all ages are invited to enjoy stories, songs and rhymes in both English and Spanish.
Also at the North Branch, join us at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 for a Hispanic Heritage Month-themed book club gathering. Select a title to read from a curated list of books by Hispanic authors and explore Latin American heritage.
Finally, the North Branch will host a Hispanic Heritage Celebration at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 featuring crafts, light snacks and activities to celebrate the rich traditions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. All ages welcome.

In September and October, the Mesquite Arts Center will include Hispanic Heritage Month-focused projects in its free Tote-and-Go kits for kids. There is a limited supply of kits, so please register in advance at www.mesquiteartscenter.org.
The Arts Center also will host "Magical Crafts with Poppy + Friends explore Latin Heritage Month," an online tutorial by local artist Poppy Xander, teaching kids how to make a piñata for a piñata puppet party. The video will premiere at 4 p.m. on Sept. 3 and will be available on demand at www.youtube.com/@mesquiteartscenter.
The Arts Center will keep the celebration of Hispanic culture going with its annual Dia de los Muertos event on Oct. 25. This free, family-friendly Day of the Dead festival will be held from 4-7 p.m. inside the building and on the grounds of the Mesquite Arts Center and will feature cultural arts workshops, music, dancing, theatrical performances, food trucks and vendors.
