Consumer Brands Issues Statement on Closing the Hemp Loophole

Arlington, Va. - November 10, 2025 - The Consumer Brands Association issued the following statement from Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs Sarah Gallo in support of Congress closing the hemp loophole:

"As Congress considers Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations, Consumer Brands encourages the closure of the "hemp loophole" which has led to unintended consequences for consumers, particularly the sale of unregulated intoxicating products. These products create risks for consumers who may falsely believe that they are reviewed and regulated by the FDA for safety and purity. Safety is the consumer packaged goods industry's number one priority. Congress should close the hemp loophole and protect consumers."
