In New Interview, Carr Slams Jones and Flounders When Pressed on Trump's Impact on Georgians' Health Cares

A new Atlanta Journal-Constitution interview with Georgia GOP gubernatorial candidate Chris Carr is a snapshot of where the GOP primary stands: lots of mudslinging and support for Donald Trump's budget law and shutdown that is leading to skyrocketing health care costs in Georgia.

On the AJC's Politically Georgia podcast this morning, Carr sharply criticized his opponent Burt Jones' candidacy and his motivations behind running for governor, saying that Jones is running "to grow [his] personal fortune. And I think that's wrong." Carr followed up the interview with a new video that viciously goes after Jones for "unethical, illegal, and corrupt behavior" and brags about his own MAGA bona fides - the latest sign that Carr and Jones are competing to see who can be the most extreme and out-of-touch with Georgians.

While Carr had lots to say about Jones today, he struggled to answer basic questions on one of the most important issues facing Georgians: health care.

In the interview, Carr backed D.C. Republicans' push to shut down the government instead of addressing skyrocketing health care costs. But when asked how he would address health care as governor, Carr ignored the impacts of Trump's health care cuts and said that the issue was something to "talk about" - a shockingly inept answer on one of the biggest issues facing Georgia families. Trump's budget law has already closed one maternal health care unit in the state, threatens to take away health care from hundreds of thousands of Georgians, and raises health care costs for 1.4 million more Georgians.
