Long Beach, CA - Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) has joined NBCUniversal Local's 2025 Clear the Shelters national pet adoption and donation campaign, taking place through Aug. 31, 2025. LBACS is holding adoption specials throughout the month and encouraging residents to get involved.

"Each year, we proudly partner with NBCUniversal for Clear the Shelters, a powerful campaign that has helped over a million animals across the country find safe and loving homes," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to make a real impact by supporting the wellbeing of our local animals. We encourage everyone to visit LBACS this month to experience firsthand the joy of giving an animal a forever home."

To encourage the responsible, mindful adoption of animals in need of a home, LBACS is offering $25 adoption specials for dogs 25 lbs. and over, and $9 adoption specials for kittens. Those interested in adopting can visit LBACS (7700 E. Spring St.) Wednesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Potential adopters can also search for adoptable pets in the shelter by breed, gender and size and apply online at https://www.cleartheshelters.com. Residents can also get involved by making a monetary donation, fostering, volunteering, donating supplies and spreading the word about local adoptable animals on social media on Instagram and Facebook.

LBACS' Clear the Shelters will culminate on the last weekend of the month with waived adoption fees from Aug. 29-31.

"Clear the Shelters is a great opportunity to help your local shelter when it needs you the most," said Melanie Wagner, Manager of Long Beach Animal Care Services. "August is historically a challenging time for shelters, which makes this event more than just an adoption event-it's a beacon of hope for our community's animals."

This is the 11th consecutive year NBC and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations, animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and help raise funds to support animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than one million pets find new homes.

About Clear The Shelters
Clear The Shelters™ / Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local's NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear The Shelters events. NBCUniversal Local's Clear The Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local's Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 700,000 pets finding new homes. Visit ClearTheShelters.com and DesocuparLosAlbergues.com for more information.
