At its session on Thursday 10 July, the Government appointed Sari Rautio as the new Director General of the Euro-Atlantic Department.

The Government appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Sari Rautio to serve as Director General of the Euro-Atlantic Department for a fixed term from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2029.

Rautio will transfer to the post from her current position as Head of Mission at Finland's Embassy in Madrid. Previously, Rautio has served as Director of the Unit for Security Policy and Crisis Management from 2018 to 2021, and as Director of the Unit for European Common Foreign and Security Policy from 2015 to 2018. She has also worked at the EU's Political and Security Committee in Brussels, and at Finland's Embassies in Moscow and Addis Ababa.

Rautio joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2000. She holds a Master's degree in social sciences.
