The City of Salinas is moving forward with plans to improve traffic safety at the intersection of California Street and East San Luis Street. This is supported by the installation of a new all way stop. Drivers in Salinas are advised to use caution when approaching the intersection.
This decision has been made after formal requests from our community and detailed evaluations from city staff and transportation officials. This change means that traffic from all directions must now come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.
With new traffic control in place all vehicles must stop at the intersection, regardless of their direction. Drivers should yield to vehicles that arrive at the intersection first. Pedestrians always have the right of way with extra precautionary measured during peak school hours.
This intersection is located near schools and areas with heightened pedestrian activity. The new all way top is designed to improve safety for everyone, including students, families, and daily commuters.
As with any new traffic change, it will take time for drivers to adjust. Please be cautious and aware, watch for new signage, and always remain alert when driving. Awareness helps keeps streets safe for everyone.
