HARRISBURG - Rep. Joe D'Orsie (R-Manchester) today announced his appointments to serve on four House committees for the 2025-26 Legislative Session: Commerce, Communications and Technology, Education, and Labor and Industry.
Committees are responsible for vetting and fine-tuning legislation before it prospectively goes to the full House of Representatives for consideration. It's also the first opportunity to amend and debate bills.
In his new role on the fledgling Communications and Technology Committee, D'Orsie will likely focus on hot topic technological issues like social media, artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, broadband internet access, and more.
"The assignments provide me an excellent opportunity to represent a nice mix of the issues and interests that directly impact the residents of York County, and I am very excited for my new role as a member of the Communications and Technology Committee," said D'Orsie. "With my background in the communications field, I feel that my experience and expertise will be a positive addition to help draft legislation and policy for an industry that is ever-changing."
D'Orsie returns for a second term to his other three committees. This session, he has been appointed to serve as Republican chairman of the Education Committee's Subcommittee on Special Education.
The Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education; the Commerce Committee is responsible for creating legislation and overseeing implementation of programs which affect Pennsylvania companies; and the Labor and Industry Committee focuses on issues impacting jobs across the state, including unemployment compensation, job training, child labor laws, workers' compensation and the Prevailing Wage Act.
Standing committees are a cornerstone of the legislative process. All bills are assigned to a committee to undergo review. Committees may hold hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills and report them to the full House for a vote.
D'Orsie and other House members took the oath of office on Jan. 7 to officially begin the new session.
The 47th Legislative District, in York County, includes Conewago, Manchester, East Manchester and Hellam townships; the boroughs of Hallam, Manchester, Mount Wolf and Wrightsville; and the northern tier of Springettsbury Township.
