Under the EU-India Cooperation and Dialogue on Migration and Mobility (CDMM-II) Project, the ILO recently convened the Linking India-EU Migration Opportunities with the Northeast Corridor (LINC) Workshop in Guwahati, Assam.
Organized in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) - and with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of Assam, and the EU Delegation to India and Bhutan - the State Engagement Programme brought together key stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and the recruitment and skilling ecosystem.
Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota, IAS, inaugurated the discussions, and senior government representatives of Sikkim, Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland shared their ongoing efforts to promote safe and legal migration pathways and their openness to building stronger connections with the EU.
The discussions focused on:
Addressing region-specific challenges and opportunities for international migration including representation from EU Members states - Germany and Italy;
Strengthening skills anticipation tools;
Enhancing skills and labour market alignment;
Promoting responsible pre-departure preparation for aspiring migrants from India's Northeast.
The discussions showcased the project's technical tools and knowledge resources, supporting evidence-based and inclusive migration governance.
