Inbound Kennedy ramp to Lawrence Avenue update

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that temporary repairs to the inbound Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90) ramp to Lawrence Avenue and retaining wall, in Chicago, are scheduled to begin, weather permitting, Tuesday, Aug. 4. Once they are completed in approximately one week, the repairs will allow one of the ramp's two lanes to reopen to traffic.

The initial assessment completed today indicates that the retaining wall will need a more in-depth inspection and evaluation to determine if a partial or complete replacement is needed, after a section failed on Saturday and required closing the ramp to all traffic. Additional information, including the scope of the repairs, traffic impacts and schedule, will be provided once the analysis is complete.

The department will continue to monitor the location to ensure the area remains safe.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
