AUC Chairperson was received by President of Burundi and Chairperson of the AU

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, was received at the Presidential Palace in Bujumbura by H.E. Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi & Chairperson of the Assembly of the AU, ahead of the AU Summit on Ebola, which will be convened under President Ndayishimiye's leadership tomorrow.

During their meeting, Chairperson Youssouf briefed President Ndayishimiye on the evolving Ebola situation on the continent, drawing on assessments and data provided by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (@AfricaCDC ), as well as ongoing response efforts by affected Member States. He also highlighted the solidarity demonstrated through the contributions and support extended by AU Member States & international partners.

They also exchanged views on a range of strategic priorities of the Union, including the ongoing AU institutional reform process aimed at enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, & responsiveness of the organisation.
The Chairperson commended the leadership of H.E. @WilliamsRuto , President of the Republic of Kenya, in advancing this important agenda.

The Chairperson provided a comprehensive update on the AU's peace, security, & mediation efforts, including initiatives to address the situations in Sudan, South Sudan, & the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as efforts to support the restoration of constitutional order in the Sahel region. He expressed his appreciation to President Ndayishimiye for his steadfast leadership & continued support for these continental endeavors.

President Ndayishimiye thanked the Chairperson for his visit & for the comprehensive briefing on these critical issues. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the work of the AU on institutional reforms & welcomed efforts to promote peace, stability, & public health preparedness across the continent.
