CRANSTON, RI - Today, after key federal inflation data shows that U.S. prices rose at an annualized clip of 3.8 percent in April, a three-year high, and as President Donald Trump's unauthorized tariffs, Iran war, and attacks on the independence of the Federal Reserve continue to push up consumer costs, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
"Inflation is soaring because of President Trump's chaos agenda, which includes unauthorized tariffs, waging war with Iran, and needlessly assaulting the Federal Reserve's independence to name a few. Individuals, families, and businesses alike are all getting squeezed by President Trump's disastrous and destabilizing economic policies.
"President Trump continues to sow economic uncertainty and instability which in turn has caused the price of gas, food, housing, and utilities to skyrocket. At the same time, he's cut off people's health care to pay for billionaire tax cuts and continues to make basic staples more expensive.
"Instead of prioritizing gilded ballrooms and using taxpayer dollars for an illegal slush fund to pay his partisan cronies, President Trump needs to start working with Democrats to lower costs for working families and start providing real relief for American households."
