This month, the Cambridge Early Childhood Math Group is kicking off the Math is Everywhere campaign- a social media campaign to help Cambridge caregivers and young children understand that math isn't just for school. It's everywhere, and it can be a lot of fun!
Math is in the steps you climb, the snacks you share, and the shapes you spot on a walk. When caregivers point these moments out, something powerful happens. Children who explore math before they start school are better prepared when they get there - not just in math, but across the board.
Young children are already natural math thinkers. They notice patterns, count objects, and compare sizes without even being asked. Caregivers don't need special training or flashcards to support this. They're already doing it - sorting laundry, setting the table, reading a clock. These everyday moments are building blocks.

Don't have social media? No Problem! You can download our flyer or visit our webpage to access monthly Math is Everywhere activities monthly Math is Everywhere activities in Amharic, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese, English, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish.
The goal of the Math is Everywhere campaign is for math to feel less like a subject and more like something to notice and enjoy together. It's also part of our larger commitment to math as a civil right. We believe that every child, no matter their background or zip code, deserves a strong foundation in math - and that it starts long before they set foot in a classroom.
Math is Everywhere is one piece of our collective action work to make sure that all Cambridge families have the tools, support, and confidence to nurture their child's math thinking from the very beginning.
