MOYLAN: GUAM AMONG JURISDICTIONS APPROVED TO MOVE FORWARD ON FEDERAL BROADBAND EXPANSION

(Washington, D.C.) Congressman James C. Moylan announced that Guam is among the 18 States and Territories approved to move forward under the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, a major step toward improving internet access across the island and lowering costs for families and small businesses.

Guam was among the jurisdictions approved, alongside American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Louisiana, Wyoming, Iowa, Georgia, Arkansas, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, South Carolina, North Dakota, Hawaii, Montana, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

The BEAD program aims to expand high-speed internet access nationwide. Recent federal reforms have helped reduce costs and increase competition across approved proposals, allowing resources to stretch further for rural and island communities. Congressman Moylan's office has consistently advocated for safe, reliable, and affordable internet access for Guam's families, schools, and small businesses including submitting major broadband investments as part of this year's appropriations requests.

"For families on Guam, this isn't just about faster streaming. This is about our kids finishing their homework without losing connection. It's about small businesses being able to take payments and compete. It's about veterans accessing telehealth appointments from home. Reliable internet is part of daily life, and this approval moves Guam in the right direction,"said Congressman Moylan.

Moylan added that improved broadband also supports economic opportunity and helps address Guam's high cost of living by increasing access to remote work, online learning, telemedicine, and modern business tools.

"Our island pays some of the highest costs in the nation for internet that is too often slow or unreliable. We must make sure that this next phase delivers results, and that every village-from Yigo to Humåtak-gets connected with service our people can count on."

With an approval of Guam's Final Proposal, the next phase includes coordination with federal and local partners on deployment, workforce capacity, permitting, and infrastructure planning.

"Help is on the way. And I will keep pushing until every home on Guam has strong, dependable internet and the opportunity that comes with it,"Moylan said.
