Budzinski Votes ‘NO’ on Additional Funding for ICE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) voted against a FY26 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill that will fund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at $10.3 billion for Fiscal Year 2026. Ultimately, the legislation failed to include accountability measures Democrats fought for, including a judicial warrant requirement, prohibition on the detention and deportation of American citizens, use of excessive force restriction, enhanced training, a body camera mandate and mask ban.

"Like so many in my district and across the country, I have watched in horror as ICE has torn families apart, detained U.S. citizens, and most recently, fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis - a preventable tragedy that has only deepened fear and mistrust," said Budzinski. "While I support lawful immigration enforcement and a secure border, it's clear that ICE has exceeded legal, reasonable, and common-sense practices. For these reasons, I cannot in good conscience support additional funding for this agency when it has repeatedly disregarded human life, the rule of law, and basic accountability."

The Congresswoman has been vocally opposed to the Trump Administration's deployment of ICE into our communities. In Congress, she is a cosponsor of the No Secret Police Act and the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act, which, if taken together, would ban the use of masks by ICE officers, require the use of body cameras, and restrict the use of excessive force when safer alternatives exist. She also recently added her name to articles of impeachment to remove Kristi Noem as Secretary of DHS.
