NV Energy to Issue Refunds for Misclassified Customers

NV Energy to Issue Refunds for Misclassified Customers

Feb 24, 2026 11:10 AM

NV Energy announced today that a resolution has been reached regarding customer account misclassifications involving some residents living in multifamily properties who were inadvertently billed under single-family rates.

Today, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) approved a proposal resolving its misclassification investigation. As part of the resolution reached in collaboration with the PUCN Staff, NV Energy will issue full refunds, including interest, totaling more than $63 million to affected customers.

While the company is committed to moving quickly to return funds to customers, the refund process will take several billing cycles to complete to ensure every customer receives the accurate amount. Current NV Energy customers will receive bill credits while those who are no longer an NV Energy customer will receive a check mailed to their last known address.

"The resolution reached is an important milestone, and we are pleased to move forward in making customers whole," said NV Energy President and CEO Brandon Barkhuff. "We know this mistake caused frustration and financial impact for our customers, and I am truly sorry for that. Making this right is our responsibility and today's resolution allows us to do that in a way that is fair and thorough. We appreciate the collaboration and dedication of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada and the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection in helping us reach a fair and thorough outcome. Our focus has been, and continues to be, ensuring billing accuracy, transparency and trust with our customers."

The PUCN has spent a significant amount of time over the last several months, working with NV Energy staff, to ensure that NV Energy has corrected the misclassification errors and this resolution is a result of this close work and collaboration. In addition. NV Energy has proactively put forth new processes and procedures, and hired CBIZ, a third-party, independent professional services firm, to audit, review and validate the company's work going forward.

NV Energy will continue to reach out to affected customers now that a resolution has been reached. For additional information, customers can visit nvenergy.com/refunds or reach out to NV Energy directly with any questions or concerns related to their account.
