Behind the Seams: DFI Student Documentary Showing at Film Festivals

Midnight Metro: A Fashion Story captures the months of creative dedication and anticipation leading up to the DMACC Fashion Institute's tenth annual fashion show, The Midnight Metro, produced in 2024.

The documentary follows students and faculty as they navigate the pressure and excitement of bringing a boldly imaginative vision to the runway.

After visiting New York, the DFI students were inspired by the boldness of the Big Apple's fashionistas and sought to bring that same fearless sense of style to the Midwest. A metro-inspired set, kooky garments, and subtle rat motifs thoughtfully sprinkled throughout the show's promotional campaign - a playful stray from Iowa's cornfields and rolling hills replaced with neon lights and the gritty energy of the urban underground.

The 68-minute documentary has screened at several regional film festivals, including the Heartland Film Festival, Oneota Film Festival, and will appear at the Ottumwa International Film Festival March 20-21, as well as the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival later this spring.
