Waynesburg U. opens home away from home for commuting Yellow Jackets

Waynesburg University recently opened a Commuter Lounge on the second floor of the Stover Campus Center. A ribbon cutting was held Monday, Aug. 27, 2024.

The Commuter Lounge is a refuge for commuting students to relax, study between classes and socialize with other students.

"Creating a space for our commuting population at Waynesburg University has always been a priority," Kelley Hardie, Dean of Students, said. "When the former eHIVE became available, I immediately thought that this would fulfill the community space needs of our students. It is a prime location, central to all campus needs and buildings."

Inside the Commuter Lounge, students can access computers to complete homework, use the large whiteboard as a study aid or relax by solving puzzles and completing coloring pages.

"The goal of the Commuter Lounge is to provide a community space for our Waynesburg University commuting students to relax in between classes, spend some time studying or socialize with other commuter students," she said. "The Commuter Lounge is a home away from home for our commuting Yellow Jackets!"

In addition to the Commuter Lounge, the Commuter Club offers a sense of community for commuting students and shares opportunities on campus. President of the Commuter Club, Morgan Bedilion, shared more details about the lounge.

"The lounge is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday," she said. "Residential students are more than welcome to join their commuting friends in the lounge."

The new space is already appreciated by students, commuting and residential, as a space to gather and grow.

"I have had many conversations with both commuting and non-commuting students who appreciate the space. It is used nearly every hour of the day, which was exactly the intention," Hardie said.
