WHITE PLAINS, NY - Today U.S. Representative George Latimer (NY-16) released the following statement after the Social Security Administration announced that it is closing the White Plains hearing office:
"The closure of the hearing office in our district means that seniors and people who are disabled will have to travel much longer distances - as far away as Albany and New Haven- at greater expense, to fight for their benefits. The lack of commitment by the Trump Administration to identify a new site is harmful to our district, Westchester and the Hudson Valley. It is frankly unacceptable to just relocate clients to distant locations.
We have identified other sites in White Plains close to the current office that are available and would keep this service in the community it has served for the past several decades. This office does not have to cease operations in White Plains."
