Leaders of the Albany County Legislature are excited and hopeful that New York State officials follow through on several proposals outlined by Governor Kathy Hochul in the 2026 State of the State Address.
Following the historic $400 million reinvestment in Albany that Hochul announced last year, legislators were thrilled to see continued follow-through by the state to address the ongoing affordability crisis with a focus on affordable housing.
The state's plans align closely with the Legislature's ongoing Housing Agenda that is slated to add a major piece next month with the projected passage of Local Law L, which outlines the creation of a revolving loan fund.
Hochul's proposals to curb 3D Printed Guns and other illegal firearms, announced last week in Albany, also complement recent legislative work to directly address violence with the recent passage of Local Law J that limits the purchase and use of flare guns in Albany County.
Albany County Legislature Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham said: "Governor Hochul continues to prove that she is committed to Albany County. With the confidence, cooperation, and commitment that we are seeing from the state, we will continue to work to revitalize and reinvigorate and invest in not just the City of Albany, but the entire County."
Albany County Legislature Democratic Majority Leader Dennis Feeney said: "Governor Hochul's proposals to curb the growing threat of illegal and 3D-printed firearms reflect a shared commitment to strengthening public safety. Her continued focus on housing affordability also aligns with the Majority's ongoing efforts to expand access to stable, attainable housing for Albany County residents. We look forward to working closely with our state partners to advance these priorities and help make Albany County a more livable community for all."
