Project Announcement

Oct. 14, 2026 - Denver Metro/Central Colorado - First of two planned weekend closures for modular expansion joint installation

Adams County - The Colorado Department of Transportation will temporarily close the eastbound Interstate 270 and US Highway 36 bridge over I-25 on Friday, Oct. 23 at 10 p.m. through Monday, Oct. 26 at 6 a.m. The full closure is required to install new modular expansion joints. These components safely absorb structural movements while maintaining a continuous, smooth surface for traffic.

The I-270 off-ramp to northbound I-25 will also be closed. Full closures increase safety for the traveling public and crews while decreasing the duration of traffic impacts.

Detours will be in place:

  • Eastbound US 36 and I-270 traffic will exit onto southbound I-25, then use the right two lanes to take exit 214A, and merge onto eastbound Interstate 70.
  • Eastbound US 36 traffic entering northbound I-25 will turn left onto N. Federal Boulevard (US Highway 287), turn right onto West 120th Avenue (CO Highway 128), and turn left to enter northbound I-25.

A second weekend closure is also planned for Friday, Nov. 6 at 10 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 9 at 6 a.m. to complete the expansion joint installation. The construction schedule could change depending on the weather and other factors. Go to COtrip.org for real-time road conditions and closures.

This work is part of the I-270 Bridge Preventative Maintenance Phase 2 project that began in March 2026. Crews are proceeding with the second and final phase of the project, focusing on ground improvements throughout the remaining portions of the work zone. These improvements will strengthen the subgrade beneath the existing roadway and bridge embankments, helping prevent settlement and soil-related issues for years to come.
