The President of the Government of Spain discusses the challenges facing the global health system with the Director-General of the WHO

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has met with the Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

During the meeting, the two discussed the global challenges facing the world's healthcare system. The President of the Government of Spain conveyed to the Director-General Spain's firm commitment to maintaining an active and prominent role in global health governance.

Pedro Sánchez highlighted the value of the Global Health Action Initiative', launched in Seville last July, which aims to renew the commitment of countries to a more agile, transparent and efficient global health architecture. In this respect, both agreed that these transformations should be a reference for the future of multilateralism and stressed the central role that the WHO is called upon to play in this process.

Within the framework of the WHO Investment Round, Spain announced a contribution of 60 million euros and, as a member of its Executive Board, the Ministry of Health will continue to participate in promoting the reform agenda; actions that reflect the Government's desire to lead and contribute to the process of transforming global health governance.
