Drew on Carrie Fisher Bringing the Female Character to Life in "The Wedding Singer" Script Edits

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/fq3FxQjTBHhr

Drew: I went to Adam Sandler and I said 'I believe we're cinematic soulmates so strongly that I'm not afraid to show up here and freak you out with what is not assumption but a begging to have you understand the magnetism I feel towards you and it's not to date you it's literally to work with you.'

Billie: And you were correct.

Drew: But I had this script called Frigid and Impotent.

Billie: Incredible title. I'm available.

Drew: Let's do it. Which one do you wanna be, frigid or impotent?

Billie: Both.

Drew: And he said I've got this thing about a wedding singer and he wrote it with Tim Herlihy then he started working on it with Judd Apatow but what he really realized, the director Frank Coraci was like we need to go to Carrie Fisher because she will write the woman's part, Julia. And if you like 'The Wedding Singer' you need to thank Carrie Fisher because she, there was no girl and so I'm forever indebted to her for that.

Billie: It's one of the coolest things she's ever done and people don't know she's written so many scripts and doctored so many scripts. She was such a brilliant writer. People know her as Princess Leia but what I love most about her is her novels and her writing. She had such a brilliant mind.

Billie on Changing Her Thoughts on the Nepo Baby Label

Drew: You have Debbie Reynolds as a grandmother and I didn't get to know my family unfortunately they all passed away before I was born, but what do you think it is that makes us so invested in wanting to honor our families?

Billie: Well, they were so unbelievably cool, and, my greatest mission in life is to, you know, hold like hold the same standard for myself that they held for themselves, and you know they died before they should have, especially my mom, and her legacy is so important to me, especially her books. That's why I love talking about her books, and I'm always like I'm like my mom's biggest fan and it's so funny like before she died I was, you know, it's that like with the nepo conversation and I was so embarrassed that she was my mom because I didn't want to be the daughter of, and then she died when I was 24, and now I want to shout it from the rooftops like she's the coolest woman of all time and Debbie is the most magical person of all time, and I love talking about them and I love being their daughter and I feel so lucky.

Billie on Living in Her Mother's House Now and Why it was Such a Welcoming Place

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/srVFcJueiwE3

Drew: How did your mom make everybody feel like her house was their house but weirdly still got them out at a certain point? Like people left, but while they were there, it was as if they lived there.

Billie: Yeah, it's like, I don't know, I call it like a barefoot mentality. Like she was always barefoot in her house, so you could be barefoot. And she, it's what we were saying earlier too, it's like she's just the most authentic, loving, warm, barefoot person.

Drew: And now you're -

Billie: I'm raising my kids there and it's the greatest gift of all time. It is such a gift getting to watch them play in the same backyard that I played in and you know that house, like that house is like my mom's soul in a house and so they really get to know her through the house. Like there's still chandeliers in the trees and there's still like little crystals she left all like one day she went to Petco and bought all these like blue ugly crystals and put them in the yard and I was like, what are you doing? And now my kids do treasure hunts and find these crystals and it's like a gift from her and it's the most beautiful thing of all time and I feel so lucky that I get to be there with them.

Billie on Her Friendship with Frances Bean Cobain

Drew: At Carrie's I always felt like just so relaxed and was it true also that like I came into your bedroom?

Billie: Yes, I was in my bunk bed with Frances and I just remember like hearing your voice and you had to come get Frances to bring her home. I don't know why, but I remember you waking us up and me just hearing your voice and me waking up like what the hell. Like these parties were insane for me. There were like 500 people at the parties, and then I would just try to go to sleep at some point in this bunk bed like a normal child.

Drew: I mean you, you were so close with Frances.

Billie: I still am.

Drew: You two are such a perfect match for each other in this world with the way you grew up and who you guys are and how strong and level headed and articulate, you both are such incredible souls. I'm so glad that you found each other and are best friends.

Billie: I know there's not many people I can look at and say 'You get it.' The really gets it and I'm so it's amazing to witness the mother she's become and the person she's become like we went through a lot together as you can imagine and it's in the book.

Drew: I can't wait to read it because I think that when we grow up in this sort of rock and roll or Hollywood or kind of wild circumstances. It's not negative or bad always. It's like there are incredible outcomes and there's a tone in which you can talk about life and keep it very real, but honor it and love it and embrace it and I've never understood why people have a strange tone about their life or who they grew up around if they're in a happy, good place.

Billie: Yeah, exactly, things happen for a reason.

Billie on "Scream Queens" and Visiting the "Charlie's Angels" Set at the Playboy Mansion

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/6NcRvbVq8l4P

Drew: I'm so glad that you did find Ryan Murphy, however, because you guys are so prolific. Like you did 'Scream Queens' together. That was 10 years ago. Yeah, and your mom used to come visit the set, right?

Billie: She did, she did and run lines with me.

Drew: Wait, didn't you come when Carrie did 'Charlie's Angels' with us?

Billie: Yes, I was there. I was there at the Playboy Mansion.

Drew: Of course, because we're all dressed as nuns in the Playboy Mansion. This is what we're talking about.

Billie: This is my childhood, yeah it's normal it's healthy, and for some reason someone let me go in the grotto. And I ended up in the grotto at 11. I was like frolicking da da da da da. And then like 5 years after I looked at her and I was like, 'Hey man, you let me go in the grotto when I was 11.' She's like, 'There's a lot of chlorine in there. It's all good, don't worry.'
