The Park & Recreation Department is celebrating two major statewide recognitions following the annual conference of the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS), highlighting the department's commitment to innovation, inclusion and long-range planning.
One of the department's recent initiatives, Dream Club, was awarded the prestigious Lone Star Recreation Programming Award. This honor recognizes organizations that deliver innovative and effective programming to meet the needs of specific communities.
Launched in 2024, Dream Club was created to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Since its inception, the program has expanded across 10 city locations, offering inclusive programming designed to remove barriers to participation. The department also received the Planning Excellence Award for GREENprint Fort Worth: Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Public Realm Master Plan. The recognition comes from a highly competitive pool of more than 200 submissions from across Texas.
Originally envisioned as an update to the Texas Parks & Wildlife-required park, recreation and open space master plan, GREENprint Fort Worth evolved into a bold, visionary roadmap for the future of the city's park system.
The plan outlines a strategy to transform Fort Worth's parks into a premier community and regional destination.
GREENprint reflects extensive community engagement and forward-thinking strategies focused on equity, connectivity, sustainability and enhanced quality of life for residents and visitors alike. These statewide recognitions highlight the department's ongoing work to expand access to recreation and guide the future of Fort Worth's park system.
