WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $856,307,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support communities in Illinois with unmet disaster recovery needs that were majorly impacted by disasters that occurred in 2023 and 2024.
"Over the past two years, Illinois communities have experienced their share of major disasters and have worked tirelessly to recover," said Durbin. "Today's announced funding will ensure the impacted areas have the support and resources necessary to rebuild. I'll continue working alongside Senator Duckworth to support our communities dealing with the aftermath of disasters."
"This significant federal investment will go a long way to help support communities devastated by severe weather as they continue to recover," Duckworth said. "I'm proud to work with Senator Durbin to bring the federal resources necessary to restore affected communities. I'll continue working to help folks in every corner of the state prepare for and recover from future hazardous weather and natural disasters."
