Mission Possible: National Vision Brings Vision Care to Communities in Mexico

June 17, 2026 in Giving Back Clinical Culture Hear from Our Doctors

Access to clear vision can open doors to education, employment, independence and improved quality of life. That's why National Vision is committed to helping address vision needs not only in our own communities, but wherever barriers to care exist. Through our philanthropic efforts and partnerships with organizations around the world, we work to help ensure more people have access to quality eye care and eyewear.

Our team recently traveled to Mexico City for the first Mission Possible trip led by 20/20 Quest-National Vision's sponsored charitable foundation. In partnership with RestoringVision and Sistema Nacional DIF (SNDIF), National Vision associates and affiliated doctors came together to help expand access to eye care for communities with limited resources.

This milestone marked the first time National Vision associates joined a mission experience of this kind, creating a unique opportunity for associates and clinicians to work side by side in service of a shared purpose: helping people see their best to live their best.

Throughout the week, volunteers provided hundreds of vision screenings, eye exams and over 1,500 pairs of eyeglasses to individuals who might otherwise not have had access to care. Volunteers arrived expecting to serve approximately 200 patients during one clinic day. Instead, they helped more than 650 individuals, demonstrating both the tremendous need for vision care and the dedication of the team that rose to meet it.

For many volunteers, the impact of the experience extended far beyond the numbers.

"One moment that stood out was when a man, filled with emotion, realized he could finally read his Bible again," shared one National Vision volunteer. "It was a beautiful reminder of how something we often take for granted can bring such joy and relief."

Another volunteer reflected on meeting a 15-year-old student determined to succeed in school despite struggling with his vision. After receiving glasses, the student became emotional as he realized he could read clearly without holding papers inches from his face.

For many patients, receiving glasses meant being able to return to everyday activities that many of us take for granted. One recipient, Julisa Ramos GarcĂa, shared the difference her reading glasses made:

"I want to express my satisfaction with the reading glasses I received. From the very first moment I tried them, I noticed a significant improvement in my near vision. Activities that used to feel uncomfortable or tiring, such as reading, writing, using my cellphone or working on sewing, can now be done with total comfort and ease."

Stories like Julisa's served as a powerful reminder that access to eye care extends beyond eyesight alone. It can restore independence, improve quality of life and help people fully participate in the activities that matter most to them.

We are grateful to every volunteer who helped make this Mission Possible trip a success, and to our partners at RestoringVision and Sistema Nacional DIF for their collaboration and support. As we look ahead, this trip serves as a reminder that the impact of eye care extends far beyond the exam room, and that together, we can help bring a clearer future into focus for communities around the world.
