Eye on UMSL: Shaping the grounds

Eye on UMSL: Shaping the grounds

by UMSL Daily | Jul 27, 2026

Photographer Derik Holtmann used a drone to capture photos of workers engaged in landscaping outside the Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center.

Crew members were spreading mulch in the courtyard outside the Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center last Thursday as they worked to get the grounds ready for the official opening of the 31,000-square-foot building next month.

Photographer Derik Holtmann captured the activity with the help of a drone flying over the building, which will serve as the gateway to the University of Missouri-St. Louis for prospective students and their families while also providing a permanent home for the university's more than 117,000 alumni.

The photograph is the latest to be featured in Eye on UMSL. View more UMSL photos by visiting the UMSL Flickr and Instagram accounts.
