American Energy Stakeholders to Appear Before Surface Transportation Subcommittee Chairman Young on May 15th

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Freight, Pipelines, and Safety, will convene a subcommittee hearing titled "Pipeline Safety Reauthorization: Ensuring the Safe and Efficient Movement of American Energy" on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:00 am EST. This hearing will review pipeline safety regulations and operations at the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to evaluate what policy priorities should be included in an upcoming PHMSA pipeline safety reauthorization. This hearing will focus on PHMSA's implementation of outstanding rulemakings required in previous legislation, the state of the hazardous liquid and natural gas industry, and innovative safety technologies and processes.

Upon announcing this hearing, Sen. Young said:

"PHMSA regulates the transportation of oil, natural gas, and other hazardous liquids by pipeline, playing a key role in unleashing America's energy independence and ensuring Americans have access to reliable, safe, and affordable energy. I look forward to hearing more about pipeline operations in the U.S. and ways these operations can be improved as we begin to draft a pipeline safety reauthorization bill."

Sen. Cruz said:

"President Trump and the new Republican Congress are committed to restoring American energy independence, and Texas will lead the way. Pipelines are the safest and most effective way to transport massive quantities of American oil and natural gas, which is why, as we look to craft legislation reauthorizing PHMSA, we need to ensure unnecessary regulations are not impeding America's energy dominance."

Witnesses:

  • Mr. Robin Rorick, Vice President of Midstream Policy, American Petroleum Institute
  • Mr. Andy Black, President and Chief Executive Officer, Liquid Energy Pipeline Association
  • Mr. Richard Leger, Senior Vice President of Natural Gas Business, CenterPoint Energy, on behalf of the American Gas Association

Additional witness to be announced at a later date.
