City Council will vote on proposed new election precinct

Dec. 8, 2025 - The City Council will meet on Wednesday for its regular work and legislative sessions, with an agenda that includes a proposal to add a new election polling place on the Hampton University campus.

The 1 p.m. work session and the 6:30 p.m. legislative session will be held in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St. Both meetings will be broadcast on the city's TV channel, Cox 47 and Verizon 22, and streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.

the afternoon legislative session will include a briefing on the comprehensive financial report for Fiscal Year 2025, which ended on June 30. After the afternoon briefing, the council will vote on whether to formally approve the report as part of the consent agenda at the evening session.

At the evening session, the council will vote on a proposed ordinance that would add a new election polling place on the Hampton University campus, with the goal to "ease voter access and improve election administration." The new polling place would re-draw precinct borders in East Hampton but would not split or re-define any Congressional or General Assembly district.

The legislative session will also include discussion of re-zoning and use permits, including a vote on whether to revoke the use permit of a downtown restaurant.

The council will begin the day on Wednesday with a 9 a.m. closed session for a briefing on the upcoming legislative session of the General Assembly in Richmond.
