The Fairfield Lions Club, in partnership with the City of Fairfield, is leading community efforts to restore the city's historic downtown arch, a century-old symbol of civic pride and resilience.
First unveiled on October 23, 1925, the Fairfield Arch was built for about $1,000 by the newly formed Fairfield Lions Club and crafted by The National Electric Sign Company in Oakland. Nearly a century later, the arch remains a symbol of Fairfield's pride and community spirit. As it turns 100, the Lions Club is leading a restoration campaign to keep the landmark shining for future generations.
The "Fairfield's Icon: Help Restore Our Landmark for America 250!" campaign aims to raise $100,000 for essential upgrades, including fresh paint, restored lighting, and commemorative plaques honoring the city's heritage and role in America 250 celebrations.
"This arch has watched Fairfield grow for a hundred years," said Nancy Meadows of the Fairfield Lions Club. "It's more than a sign; it's part of our shared story. Every bulb and beam carries the pride of this community, and we're determined to see it shine again."
Mayor Catherine Moy added, "The arch reminds us where we've come from and who we are as a community. Supporting the Lions Club's restoration effort preserves the heart of Fairfield, where tradition and progress meet. I have known the arch my entire life, and it feels like a part of our city's soul. When I come home from traveling and see it glowing in the distance, I feel an overwhelming sense of belonging. It is more than a landmark. It is a beacon that says, 'You're home.'"
Community members are encouraged to donate, share, and help keep Fairfield's story glowing. Contributions can be made through the official GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/0d8ecf172
