As part of its ongoing commitment to increase access to oral health through education, Dentsply Sirona joined the FDI World Dental Federation in recognizing the Hong Kong Dental Association with the "Most Educational Activity of the Year" award at the 2025 World Dental Congress in Shanghai.
Charlotte, N.C. Dentsply Sirona, the world's largest diversified manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, proudly celebrated the winners of the "Most Educational Activity of the Year" award, announced at this year's World Dental Congress in Shanghai, China, on September 9 as part of the 2025 World Oral Health Day (WOHD) campaign. The award, sponsored by Dentsply Sirona, and conferred by FDI World Dental Federation (FDI), recognizes outstanding efforts to increase oral health literacy among the public. This year's award was presented to the Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA), represented by Dr. Flora Chan.
The award sponsorship is part of Dentsply Sirona's long-standing partnership with FDI and reflects the company's broader commitment to increasing access to oral health through its global sustainability program, "BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World."
Connecting Oral and Mental Health
The 2025 WOHD campaign, themed "A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind," emphasized the vital connection between oral health and mental well-being. Dentsply Sirona's global communication campaign engaged audiences across digital platforms, internal channels, and dental communities, reinforcing the message that oral health is essential to overall quality of life. This message was powerfully brought to life by this year's award-winning initiative. The jury commended HKDA for its comprehensive program of lectures and hands-on workshops, organized in collaboration with the Hong Kong Special Care Dentistry Association throughout March and April 2025. These sessions addressed critical topics such as the link between periodontal disease and Alzheimer's prevention, minimal intervention dentistry techniques, and strategies for treating patients with complex medical or behavioral needs.
In addition, HKDA launched a territory-wide initiative, Oral Health Week 2025, mobilizing dentists across the region to provide free dental check-ups and promote preventive care. The combined efforts reached over 101,000 participants, demonstrating the campaign's remarkable impact in educating the public about the importance of oral health.
Championing Education Across the Dental Industry
As sponsor of the "Most Educational Activity" award, Dentsply Sirona continues to champion the role of education in advancing oral health. Through long-standing partnerships - including with FDI and Smile Train, the world's largest cleft-focused organization - the company has supported the development of impactful educational tools and resources for dental professionals and patients alike. These resources span a wide range of topics, from cleft care and patient communication to sustainability in dentistry.
Andrea Frohning, SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer at Dentsply Sirona, shared her reflections in a video message presented at the WOHD ceremony in Shanghai, outlining that the shared commitment FDI and Dentsply Sirona have to improving oral health globally is a powerful uniting force. FDI's newly elected President, Assist. Prof. Nikolai Sharkov, also emphasized the importance of collaboration across the dental industry, saying: "Our partnership with Dentsply Sirona continues to be a driving force in advancing global oral health. Together, we are not only raising awareness - we are building sustainable, community-driven solutions that increase access to oral health."
