Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, spoke at the 10th National Congress of Secretaries organised by the Jerzy Regulski Foundation in Support of Local Democracy. This year's edition of the Congress was held under the slogan: "Competence. It's a liability. Cooperation. Innovation. The self-government of the future starts today." The Deputy President of the Office for Personal Data Protection participated in the panel entitled: 'Cybersecurity in JTS - cooperation, resilience and challenges'. The discussion was devoted to the challenges related to the development of digital services in local government units, building resilience against threats, counteracting disinformation and protecting the privacy of residents. The panellists also discussed the cooperation of local governments in the field of cybersecurity
During the debate, Konrad Komornicki emphasised that cybersecurity and personal data protection are one of the key elements of the functioning of local government administration these days. He added that security issues should be taken into account already when designing systems. "The development of digital services in local governments must go hand in hand with building the security and trust of citizens. The protection of personal data is one of the foundations of modern and responsible administration. Implementation of AI implementation in local governments should be preceded by a high-quality, pre-implementation analysis based on various DPAI acts," said Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
The panel was also attended by representatives of public administration, the scientific community and experts dealing with cybersecurity and the functioning of local governments. The discussion was moderated by the Secretary of the City of Opole.
The participation of a representative of the Personal Data Protection Office in the 10th National Congress of Secretaries was an opportunity to exchange experiences and talk about the challenges related to ensuring digital security and personal data protection in local government administration.
