Residents, businesses and visitors are being invited to have their say on new plans aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and helping people feel safer in Grays.
Thurrock Council is launching a public consultation on proposals to continue measures that tackle behaviours such as street drinking and other issues that can negatively affect people's day-to-day lives and enjoyment of the town.
By extending these measures, the Council aims to continue supporting a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who lives in, works in or visits Grays.
Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to take part in the consultation on the proposed extension of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Grays.
A PSPO is a legal tool used by councils to help prevent anti-social behaviour in public places. In simple terms, it allows the Council and the police to set rules for certain areas, such as restricting street drinking, where this behaviour has a negative impact on the local community. The aim is to make public spaces safer and more welcoming for everyone.
The current PSPO in Grays, which helps address street drinking and related anti-social behaviour caused by a small minority of people, is due to expire on 31 March 2026. Thurrock Council is proposing to extend the order for a further three years, covering areas within the Grays, Thurrock and Grays Riverside wards, in response to ongoing concerns raised by residents and local businesses.
Following feedback already received, the Council is also considering extending the area covered by the PSPO. The proposed additional locations include:
How to take part
All responses will be carefully considered before a final decision is made. If the PSPO is extended, the outcome will be published in March 2026.
The consultation is being led by Thurrock Council's Community Safety Partnership Team.
