The South Carolina Energy Office (SCEO) has launched Drive Electric South Carolina, a new statewide education campaign designed to help residents get practical answers about electric vehicles (EVs), including charging, range, cost, and whether an EV fits their day-to-day needs. The campaign is grounded in the idea that EVs may not be for everyone, but for many South Carolinians, they can fit the way people drive, work, travel, and live.
To improve EV education and transparency, the SCEO developed www.DriveElectricSC.com, a website exploring the benefits and challenges of owning an EV in South Carolina. The site features interactive tools to locate fast chargers and compare trip distances, EV driver stories from across the state, and information on current EV charging infrastructure, safety, costs, and more.
The initiative grew out of the SCEO's 2022 Electric Vehicle Stakeholder Initiative (EVSI), through which the office facilitated discussions among more than 350 stakeholders to explore EV deployment in South Carolina. One of the resulting recommendations tasked the SCEO with developing a statewide EV awareness campaign. The campaign was informed by research showing that many South Carolinians are interested in electric vehicles but still have questions about cost, charging, range, and vehicle performance.
