Treasurer Stacy Garrity Returns More Than $13,000 in Unclaimed Property to Spring Garden Township

York, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today that more than $13,000 in unclaimed property has been returned to Spring Garden Township in York County.

"I'm excited to get this money back to Spring Garden Township so it can benefit its hardworking residents. This is a great example of how searching for property can bring great results, and I encourage other municipalities and local organizations to search regularly for unclaimed property."

The $13,103 returned includes six individual properties ranging in value from $25 to $12,142. The oldest property dates back to 2004, while the most recent is from 2020. Properties returned include funds from accounts payable checks, credit balances and uncashed checks. How the funds are spent will be determined by township officials.

Treasurer Garrity has returned nearly $19 million to 113 local government agencies, including counties and municipalities.

Treasury is working to return more than $5 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners, including more than $58 million to York County residents. More than one in ten Pennsylvanians are owed unclaimed property, with an average claim worth more than $1,000.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policies, contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes and more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.

Treasurer Garrity noted that most unclaimed property actually belongs to individuals and businesses and she encourages everyone to regularly check the Treasury website to see if they, their family, or their business or organization, has money available to be claimed.
