Rehabilitation of South Street Bridge Over I-84 in Middlebury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that nightly lane closures will be implemented on I-84 east and westbound at the South Street Bridge in Middlebury for concrete bridge deck replacement and structural repairs. These intermittent closures are scheduled to start on Monday, March 9, 2026, and be completed on Friday, September 10, 2027.

CTDOT Project 0080-0132 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $9,606,309.55 on 12/29/2025 and is scheduled to be completed on 9/10/2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction,
District 4 in Thomaston.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

Intermittent nightly lane closures will begin Monday, March 9, 2026, and will end on September 10, 2027. Generally, east and westbound traffic under the South Street Bridge may be reduced to one lane by way of rolling roadblock between the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on eastbound and 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. westbound. Occasional 10 minute or less "Halt Traffic" operations may occur from 12:01 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. during this period. Pre-warning vehicles, arrow boards and traffic drums will be utilized for lane closures during this time.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may occur due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
