Landslip forces closure of parts of the Railway Walk

19 February 2026

A landslip occurred last night on the Railway Walk, near the Jersey Water impounding pond near Mont Nicolle.

As a precaution, the Railway Walk has been closed from:

The Pont Marquet dip, at the traffic-light-controlled pedestrian crossing down to the point where the path meets St Aubin's Hill, at the small car park near the language school (end of the 20mph zone).

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area entirely - there is no through route from Les Quennevais to St. Aubins.

Infrastructure & Environment Update:

  • The collapse appears to have been caused by water channelling beneath the Railway Walk
  • All the utilities in the area remain operational
  • Further collapse remains possible, and the site continues to be closely monitored
  • I&E teams worked overnight with Geomarine to stabilise the slip, and further works will continue today
  • Barriers remain in place on both sides of the affected area to prevent any pedestrian access.

It is expected to take several weeks before the path is reopened.

Further updates will be issued once a full assessment has been completed.
