On December 8, the Consulate General in Mumbai held a memorial event to mark the 83rd anniversary of Dr. Kotnis's passing at the Dr. Kotnis Smarak Garden in Solapur. Consul General Mr. Qin Jie, diplomats from the Consulate General, Dr. Sachin Ombase, Municipal Commissioner of Solapur, as well as scholars and young people attended the event.
Mr. Qin said that Dr. Kotnis was not only an outstanding son of the Indian people, but also a great friend of the Chinese people. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and tomorrow is the 83rd anniversary of the passing of Dr. Kotnis. We will never forget his heroic support for China's resistance against Japanese aggression, and we are ready to work with our Indian friends to carry on his legacy, enhance exchanges in various fields, strengthen people-to-people friendship, and promote steady and sustained growth of our bilateral ties. It is hoped that the young people in Solapur will follow the example of Dr. Kotnis and act as a bridge of friendship between China and India.
The Consulate General donated over 80 pictures of the War against Japanese Aggression and Dr. Kotnis. Mr. Qin and Mr. Ombase laid wreaths before Dr. Kotnis's bronze statue.
