3rd annual Welcome Fayetteville on downtown square Sept. 14

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - As part of Welcoming Week NWA, the City of Fayetteville's Community Resources Department will host Welcome Fayetteville, a free event that connects neighbors with City of Fayetteville programs and services in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Arvest Plaza, located on the north side of Fayetteville's Downtown Square. This event is being held in conjunction with Sundays on the Square.

Welcome Fayetteville is open to the public. Visitors can enjoy interactive games, giveaway items and free face-painting for all ages while meeting the people who help keep Fayetteville thriving.

Welcoming Week is a national initiative that brings together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and celebrate inclusive communities. In Northwest Arkansas, Welcoming Week NWA highlights local events that affirm the importance of belonging for everyone who calls our region home.

Staff from the following City departments and community partners will be on hand to provide information and answer questions:

  • Parks and Recreation - Learn about recreational programs and upcoming events, as well as the Yvonne Richardson Community Center's expanded building and new programs. (Shoot hoops on a small basketball goal for small prizes!)
  • Recycling and Trash - Receive informational brochures about waste-diversion services and giveaways promoting the City's services; also, its food waste trailer will be parked on site.
  • Long Range Planning - Get a sneak peek at the new vision for the heart of Fayetteville.
  • Fayetteville Police Department - Learn about community focused outreach.
  • University of Arkansas Transit - See public transit routes and learn about the PassioGo app, which shows bus-stop locations and routes being run in real-time.

In conjunction with the event, the City's Community Resources Department also "welcomes" a new Facebook page: www.facebook.com/FayettevilleARCommunityResources. The page will focus on the full picture of how the City is working with our community partners for Fayetteville residents, including food programs, housing support, energy kits, transportation and more. Follow the department on Facebook and Instagram.

Whether you're new to Fayetteville or a lifelong neighbor, Welcome Fayetteville is a chance to come together, celebrate community and discover the many resources available to support our residents.
