Mayor Mantello Announces Seasonal Closure of Frear Park Golf Course After One of Its Most Successful Years
(TROY, NY) - As the 2025 golf season comes to a close, Mayor Carmella R. Mantello is proud to announce the successful completion of another successful season at the Frear Park Golf Course, where thousands of rounds of golf were played throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
Mayor Mantello and the City of Troy extend their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who visited and played at Frear Park this year. The mayor also commended the exceptional work of Josh Buell, Greg Tudor, and the entire Frear Park staff, whose dedication and professionalism helped deliver one of the best seasons in recent memory.
"Frear Park is one of Troy's true treasures - a beautiful, historic course that brings people together from across the Capital Region and the Northeast," said Mayor Mantello. "Thanks to our hardworking team and loyal golfers, the 2025 season was one of the most successful yet. We can't wait to build on that momentum in 2026."
This season, Frear Park hosted over 35 charity golf tournaments, 25 full-season men's, women's, and senior leagues, and thousands of individual rounds, solidifying its reputation as one of the Capital Region's and Northeast's premier public golf destinations. Despite challenging weather conditions, crews kept the course in top shape, providing a first-class playing experience for all who visited.
As winter approaches, the city encourages residents and visitors to continue enjoying Frear Park's all year-round recreation opportunities, including sleigh riding, snowshoeing, trail hiking, fishing, and cross-country skiing.
Looking ahead, 2026 will bring a number of major improvements to Frear Park, enhancing accessibility, recreation, and beautification across the entire property. Planned upgrades include:
Golf represents more than just recreation - it's also an important economic driver. Across New York State, the golf industry contributes over $13 billion annually in economic activity. Locally, Frear Park supports Troy's economy through tee time reservations, cart rentals, pro shop purchases, and hospitality spending.
"As we close out 2025, I want to thank everyone who made this season such a success," said Mantello. "Frear Park isn't just a golf course - it's a year-round destination that showcases the very best of Troy. We look forward to another incredible season in 2026."
