The City of Grande Prairie begins its 2025 street sweeping operations on April 7, starting with arterial roads and high-traffic routes.
Crews are clearing debris from roadways, medians, concrete barriers and boulevards. Trail sweeping is also underway.
Sweeping of arterial, collector and transit routes is expected to continue until late May, weather permitting. Once complete, crews will move to secondary roads, followed by residential areas. Residential sweeping is expected to begin in late May and wrap up by the end of June.
Arterial road sweeping takes place 24 hours a day from Sunday at 10 p.m. until Friday at 10 p.m.
Drivers are asked to use extra caution around sweepers, which move slowly-typically between 5 and 10 km/h.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents as we conduct our seasonal street sweeping operations," says Director of Engineering and Transportation, Wade Nellis. "Please give crews space so they can work safely and efficiently."
Debris collected includes gravel, mud, rocks and other natural material, which is disposed of at the Aquatera landfill.
