26 February 2026, Chișinău - A new round of Moldova-Latvia interministerial political consultations was held in Chișinău at State Secretary level. The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was led by Carolina Perebinos, while the Latvian delegation was headed by Ivars Lasis, Parliamentary Secretary and Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
The discussions covered bilateral political dialogue, cooperation at bilateral and multilateral level, the Republic of Moldova's European integration process, the regional security situation, as well as prospects for deepening economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of security.
The consultations included a review of the state of Moldova-Latvia relations. The parties reaffirmed the positive momentum of political dialogue and the use of existing cooperation mechanisms, including high-level contacts. The most recent meeting at this level took place on the margins of the Munich Security Conference, between the heads of the two states.
European integration-particularly the Republic of Moldova's cooperation with the European Union in the area of security and defence-was an important topic of discussion. The Moldovan side presented recent developments and priorities for the next stage, expressing appreciation for Latvia's political and technical support. Latvian Parliamentary Secretary Ivars Lasis reiterated Latvia's firm support for the Republic of Moldova's European path.
Another topic addressed concerned developments related to the Transnistrian settlement process and the broader regional security context.
At sectoral level, the interlocutors reviewed cooperation in the areas of energy, digitalisation, mobility, internal affairs and defence, as well as possibilities to expand it to education, tourism and other areas of mutual interest.
The parties also discussed next steps to strengthen the bilateral legal framework, including advancing the implementation of ongoing agreements, among them the Agreement on the recognition and exchange of driving licences.
