Chairman Williams Op-Ed: Working Families Tax Cuts are a Beacon for Main Street America

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the following Op-Ed by Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, appeared in The Washington Examiner.

"I've been a car dealer for over 50 years, and each April, I see my employees sit down with their tax forms and leave frustrated after working hard, only to keep less of what they earn each year.

"After four years of Biden-era inflation, skyrocketing costs, and a tax code that penalized hard work instead of rewarding it, working families deserved better. This Tax Day, through the leadership of congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump, working American families are finally getting what they're due.

"As Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, I am already seeing and hearing the benefits of one of the most consequential pro-growth tax bills in a generation, the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.

"I've spent my time in Washington fighting for the men and women who take risks, innovate, and strengthen local communities. This crucial legislation makes key provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent - the most significant overhaul of the U.S. tax code since 1986 - and goes even further. No tax on tips. No tax on overtime. 100% expensing. These are real, tangible changes for real, hard-working people.

"The numbers prove it. This year is set to be the largest refund season in American history: refunds are up nearly 11%, topping $3,700, and almost 20 million workers are keeping more of their overtime pay. Additionally, more than 4.6 million tipped workers are taking home what they actually earned.

"That's real money back in Americans' pockets.

"When working families and small businesses have more money, they don't sit on it - they spend it, invest it, and grow with it. That's how Main Street rises. When Main Street thrives, the American economy grows even stronger.

"The Working Families Tax Cuts Act keeps the United States competitive at home, while maintaining our economic dominance abroad. Under the previous administration, businesses moved overseas, supply chains left American soil, and local communities paid the price. This tax relief bill puts America first again, bringing jobs and investment back home and ensuring the U.S. remains the best place in the world to start, grow, and keep a business.

"By allowing small businesses to immediately expense capital investments, it fuels productivity, drives reinvestment, and leads to more jobs and higher wages. Restoring 100% expensing helps Main Street innovate, expand, and keep pace with global competitors.

"The Expanded 199A deduction, which was raised from 20% to 23% and made permanent, is projected to generate $750 billion in economic growth and create over 1 million new small business jobs annually. Nearly 12 million small business owners are already seeing an average tax reduction of $7,000.

"That's what happens when you are back on Main Street: stronger small businesses, better-paying jobs, and more investment in American communities, not overseas.

"My Made in America Manufacturing Finance Act works hand in hand with the Working Families Tax Cuts Act and Trump's "America First" agenda to revitalize domestic manufacturing, onshore supply chains, and reward small businesses that build in the U.S. It's simple: If you invest in America, America should invest in you.

"Trump ran on making the U.S. affordable and keeping America competitive, and Republicans delivered on both.

"This Tax Day, millions of people are feeling the difference. Small businesses built this country, and the Working Families Tax Cuts Act ensures they can keep building it for generations to come."
