Dakota State University President Griffiths in Her Final Academic Year, New Role as Chancellor

October 7, 2025

Dakota State University President José-Marie Griffiths has announced that this current academic year will be her last as president of the university. Following her presidency, Griffiths will remain an active part of the DSU community, serving as chancellor--a new position created to support Dakota State's well-known cyber programs on a national level.

Since becoming president in 2015, Griffiths has led DSU through a decade of growth and achievement. Under her leadership, the university has:

  • Established Dakota State as a national leader in cybersecurity education, research, and
    partnerships.
  • Expanded academic programs and student enrollment, particularly in technology and cyber-
    related fields.
  • Secured significant federal and state investments to enhance DSU's research capacity and
    workforce development efforts.
  • Advanced collaborations with government, military, and industry partners, positioning DSU as a
hub for innovation in cyber operations and defense.

"It has been the honor of my career to serve as president of Dakota State University and to work alongside our dedicated faculty, staff, and students," said President Griffiths. "DSU has built a national reputation in cybersecurity and technology, while still maintaining our close-knit campus community. I look forward to continuing to champion our cyber mission as an ambassador, helping Dakota State write its next chapter of success."

South Dakota Board of Regents President Tim Rave praised Griffiths' leadership and lasting contributions to the university and the state.

"President Griffiths has transformed Dakota State University into a nationally respected leader in cyber
education and research," Rave said. "Her vision created opportunities for students, strengthened South
Dakota's workforce, and elevated the state's role on the global cyber stage. We are grateful for her years
of service and look forward to her continued involvement in advancing DSU's mission."

Griffiths will continue to lead Dakota State, focusing on student success, academic excellence, and innovation as she concludes her final year of academic leadership. While preparing for her new role, she will continue to expand DSU's reach and global influence in the constantly evolving field of cybersecurity.

Details regarding an upcoming presidential search will be announced at a later date.
