Argentina Lifts Bunker Fuel Limits for Outbound Vessels

The Argentine government has published a new resolution by means of which Customs will allow vessels to take bunkers to complete the tank full capacity, thus removing the restrictions which only allowed vessels to take enough bunkers to reach the next port.

Section 9 of the new resolution states that Customs may authorise the bunker supply to complete the fuel tank for the vessel's own consumption.

The details of the new regulation are:

Customs may authorise the provision of bunker when it is carried out at the last port/operational point before departing directly abroad, or at a different point in line with the itinerary.

  • The requested quantity must be reasonable, considering the vessel type, fuel type, and maximum tank capacity.
  • The supply must be direct to the vessel's fuel tanks for its own consumption, up to the maximum capacity.
  • Once the bunker is loaded at the start point for a given itinerary, no additional loads will be authorised at other Argentine ports.

The new regulation will take effect as of January 1, 2026.
