Columbia City Council election petitions available for pick up, first day to file Oct. 28
(COLUMBIA, MO)- Residents who wish to run for City Council for Ward 1 or Ward 5 must file a petition for office with the City Clerk's Office. Petitions and instructions are available to be picked up from the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1-5 p.m., excluding weekends and City holidays.
Candidates must be qualified voters and residents of the ward they are filing to represent and shall hold no lucrative public office or any lucrative position in the City government during their terms. Candidates for Ward 1 and Ward 5 must obtain at least 50 signatures from residents who reside and are registered voters of that same ward.
Candidates may file for election beginning 8 a.m. Oct. 28, 2025. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Jan. 13, 2026.
Election Day is April 7, 2026. Maps of the Wards can be found by visiting CoMo.Gov/Boards/city-council/wards-map/.
